U.S. May factory orders rise 0.6% (by Robert Schroeder)

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- Orders for U.S.-made factory goods rose by 0.6% in May, the Commerce Department reported Wednesday, with big orders for computers and defense equipment behind the gain. The overall number was roughly in line with the rise of 0.7% expected by economists surveyed by MarketWatch. Orders for durable goods remained flat in May following a separate report last week.
